St. Joseph's School
Earlier this year groups of pupils were given the task of making models of an area of their school which they felt needed to be redesigned. They were supported in this work by Fiona Grey, an artist, and Paul Wellwood, one of the BSF project managers. Before they began their models they were shown examples of architecture considered good or interesting and a case study from the Sorrell Foundation project ‘Joined up Design for Schools’. Like the work done with our school the aim of the session was to show how pupils could work with designers to solve problems in their own schools.

The music room has an area decorated with graffiti and music related images. There is a DJ area with up to the minute mixing desks. The individual practice rooms are well soundproofed and can be accessed from two sides. The round windows are fitted with coloured glass.

The outside area features a plastic covered fin structure to provide shelter. There is a variety of seating and tables along with sculptures. The site benefits from the inclusion of a Gregs bakery and a Starbucks coffee shop.

The stadium is shaped like a rugby ball with large glass panels, some of which are coloured. There are a number of sports courts inside the stadium. The storage pods at each corner can be accessed from inside or outside the stadium.
